About VisitJakarta.com

An independent guide to Indonesia’s capital, for people who want more than a transit hotel.

VisitJakarta.com exists to help you get the most out of Jakarta — not just what to see, but how the trains and buses work, which tours are worth it, which area to sleep in, when the rain and the haze arrive and how to get out of town for a day.

Independent, not official. This site is not run by, endorsed by or affiliated with the Jakarta provincial government, the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism or any tourism board. It is a privately published travel guide.

What we cover

  • How to get in from the airport and around the city by MRT, LRT, TransJakarta, commuter train and ride-hailing.
  • Which tours are worth booking, ranked honestly and updated as ratings change.
  • What to see — Monas, the Istiqlal Mosque and cathedral, the National Museum, Kota Tua, Glodok, Sunda Kelapa and more.
  • Day trips to the Thousand Islands, Bogor, Puncak and Bandung.
  • Where to stay, area by area, and when to come.

How we research

Prices, opening days and journey times are checked against operators, transport providers and booking platforms, and reviewed regularly. Tour ratings and review counts come directly from GetYourGuide; hotel scores from Trip.com. Where a figure moves around — fares, entrance fees, visa costs — we give a range and say so, rather than pretending to a precision that does not exist.

Where we express an opinion, it is an opinion. We tell you when a trip involves a long drive, when a cheaper option is the better one, and when a product has too few reviews to judge.

How the site is funded

We are a GetYourGuide affiliate partner and a Trip.com partner. If you book a tour or a room through a link on this site, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. That is the only way this guide is funded — there is no advertising, no sponsored placements and no paid inclusion in any ranking. Read the full affiliate disclosure.

Prices change, rules change, new stations open. If something here is out of date or wrong, please tell us — we would rather fix it than defend it. Write to us on the contact page.
